Speakers at Philanthropy in Times of Polycrisis: Risk Capital as a Mindset

As Lead for Inclusive Development at Philanthropy Asia Alliance (PAA), Angela is responsible for cultivating strategic partnerships and advancing collaborative philanthropy for education, employability, and economic opportunity in Asia. She has over 15 years of experience managing impact strategy and philanthropic programs in private, public, and non-profit settings. Prior to joining PAA, she led The UPS Foundation's social impact and community relations efforts across the Asia Pacific region. She also worked at Habitat for Humanity and the Singapore International Foundation, designing and implementing programs in the areas of shelter, healthcare, and education. She's passionate about community-driven and systems change models, and works closely with multisectoral stakeholders to achieve sustainable outcomes.

Angel Chia is the Executive Director of the Hong Kong Academy for Wealth Legacy, an institute dedicated to enhancing family office ecosystem worldwide. The Academy fosters collaboration, networking, knowledge sharing, and talent development among family office principals and next-gens and SFO executives to strengthen Hong Kong as a global family office hub.

 

 

She has over 20 years of financial industry experience in equity sales and trading, asset and wealth management across Taipei, New York, Hong Kong, and Singapore, with Solomon Smith Barney, ABN Amro, and BNP Paribas. Angel established the Singapore subsidiary for Shenwan Hongyuan and managed its offshore asset management business. She also set up SingAlliance (Hong Kong) as CEO and was Chief Strategy Officer at Fountainhead Partners. Angel founded NexGenerator, a family office accelerator mentoring next-generation principals. Angel was Chair of the Family Office Association Hong Kong prior to joining the Academy.

 

 

She holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Toronto, an MBA from University of Chicago Booth School of Business, and is an Adjunct Associate Professor at National Sun-Yat-Sen University in Taiwan.

As a SPCC IB graduate and a Cambridge-educated Manufacturing Engineer, Hampton Tao worked at a Hong Kong e-commerce startup and a US deep-tech VC fund, before joining a single family office and private family foundation established by his family. 

Today, Hampton is passionate about promoting multi-generational stewardship of family wealth and legacy across Asia, especially among millennials and Gen Z. Within his family, he serves as an Investment Manager for New Heritage Group and a Manager for C.F. & Nancy Tao Foundation. Outside of his family, he is the Founder of Totemic Families, a new media platform documenting the realities of intergenerational trust building between current and future family leaders.

Justin focuses on RS Group’s philanthropic activities and deployment of catalytic capital. Prior to RS Group, Justin was with the UBS Optimus Foundation, leading the social finance team's global work on climate and nature-based solutions, developing blended finance projects, and impact first investments into social and nature-positive enterprises. Before UBS, Justin worked at Prudential plc in various corporate roles, then pivoted to the impact sector by helping to establish and grow their own Foundation in Asia. He started his working life with EY Australia, holds a Bachelor of Business with Distinction from University of Technology, Sydney, and is a qualified Chartered Accountant.

Kithmina Hewage is Director of Policy Engagement at the Centre for Asian Philanthropy and Society (CAPS), where he leads the organisation’s policy engagement and strategic outreach efforts with governments, philanthropists, corporates, and nonprofit organisations across 17 Asian economies to facilitate more private sector capital towards addressing development challenges. Kithmina has over 10 years of academic and professional experience in international development policy research, analysis, and consulting in the United States, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and Sri Lanka. During his tenure at the British High Commission in Colombo from 2020 to 2022, Kithmina worked closely with senior political, business, and civil society figures both in Sri Lanka and in the United Kingdom. In the period 2015 to 2020, Kithmina worked for the Institute of Policy Studies of Sri Lanka (IPS), the country’s foremost policy think-tank. As a trusted advisor across the political spectrum in Sri Lanka, he was appointed to several government task forces on macroeconomic and investment policy reforms. Additionally, he has served as a consultant for international organizations such as the World Bank and the International Trade Centre (ITC). Kithmina is also a member of the Expert Network of the World Economic Forum (WEF). As a regular guest on television and radio programs in several countries, Kithmina provides insight into global political and economic developments. He has been invited to speak on panel discussions and deliver keynote addresses at prestigious regional and global summits. His op-eds have appeared in international publications such as Nikkei Asia and The Diplomat, while his research articles have been published by the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC) and Routledge. Kithmina holds a BA (honors) in international studies & anthropology (with a minor in economics) from Johns Hopkins University and an MSc in international public policy from University College London (UCL). 

Martin Tan is the CEO of The Majurity Trust, a philanthropic organization in Singapore that works with donors and charities to build a thriving community in Singapore. Over the past 8 years, TMT raised over $99M from over 613 donors that supported over 338 grantee partners that reached over 600,000 beneficiaries in Singapore. 

Martin serves as board member of Founders Memorial, Ray of Hope, Children's Museum Singapore, and Halogen Singapore (which he co-founded in 2003). He previously served on the boards of the National Council of Social Service (NCSS), National Library Board, National Family Council and National Youth Council. He served as Honorary Secretary of National Family Council, Deputy Chairperson of Marriage Central and Council Member of the 13th National Youth Council.  

Martin was the Executive Director of the Institute for Societal Leadership at Singapore Management University and has worked with leaders in various sectors globally as a platform speaker and leadership facilitator. Martin was awarded The JCI Outstanding Young Person Award, inducted as Asia 21 Fellow, Singapore Youth Award, and appointed as Global Council Member at Asia Society.
