Project Partner: The Learning Generation Initiative at Education Development Centre (EDC)

Geographies: Cambodia & the Philippines

What is the core idea of the pilot?

High Touch High Tech for All (HTHT) aims to deliver personalised learning for disadvantaged students by combining teacher strengths (High Touch) with AI (High Tech).

Project Pilots:

- Cambodia: Partnering with Teach for Cambodia to pilot HTHT in 10 schools in Phnom Penh and Kandal, focusing on math and computational thinking for grades 7-8

- Philippines: Collaborating with Ayala Foundation (PAA Member) to pilot HTHT in 9 rural elementary schools in Zambales, focusing on 5th and 6th-grade math

Why is this innovative?

High Tech

- Provides adaptive content and assessment to develop students’ foundational skills

High Touch

- Teacher focuses on personalising their support to students and developing higher-order and 21st century skills such as critical thinking, collaboration, and socio-emotional learning

- There is growing evidence that such approach could be most beneficial for those furthest behind

What will success look like?

To improve teaching and learning in 10 secondary schools in Cambodia and 9 primary schools in the Philippines and improve global knowledge sharing and collaboration on HTHT:

- Improve the learning of 2,580 children

- Improve the teaching of 28 teachers

- Improved knowledge sharing and collaboration between countries, practitioners, funders and researcher

With additional funding, the project can scale-up within current countries and venture into new countries e.g. Indonesia.

How will success be achieved?

Phase 1

- Detailed project design and implementation plan agreed for each country

Phase 2

- Pilot implementations complete for whole school year

Phase 3

- External evaluation report produced for each country

- Throughout project: Global knowledge sharing and convening, collaborating with others

Who is leading the project?

The Learning Generation Initiative at Education Development Centre (EDC) is a global initiative encouraging greater progress on UNSDG 4 – ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning for all. Since July 2023, LGI has been hosted at EDC which is global nonprofit that advances lasting solutions to improve education, promote health, and expand economic opportunity. They seek to leverage the potential of technology-enhanced personalised learning – and the HTHT approach in particular – to address the double-sided challenge of fostering innovation and diminishing inequities in education.
