Programme Partner: Resilient Cities Network
Region: Asia, Africa & the Middle East
In the fastest growing regions inclusive of Asia, waste generation is expected to triple by 2050. Meanwhile, it is estimated that incorporation of circular economy approaches can generate ~$4.5 trillion in economic growth, cut greenhouse gas emissions by 39%, and create millions of new jobs.
Cities globally are demanding innovative solutions to scale up circular economy initiatives. As the world’s leading urban resilience organization present in 100 cities, Resilient Cities Network (R-Cities) is accelerating solutions and resilience action in the circularity sector.
This initiative presents a unique opportunity for cities to lead the transition to a circular economy by targeting three key pillars: plastics (implemented through the Urban Ocean program), food systems (implemented through the Urban Eats campaign), and the built environment.
R-Cities will work with partners and cities who demonstrate a strong commitment to circularity and resilience to design, prepare, and mobilize funding for projects that respond to one or more of the key circular pillars. These projects will help cities to build more circular, resilient, and inclusive communities.
